Toy Story (10 mins)

Toy Story

10 by 20 area, narrow but long area. Woody/ Jessie (runners) do not have a ball and are looking to get from one side to the other without getting hit by a soccer ball. The players on the side are Lotso (shooters), they have to use the inside of the foot to pass the ball and try and hit a player below the knee. If you are hit by a soccer ball you help Lotso get the other players out. The last person left is the winner.

Ask the players who wants to be Lotso, if no players want to be then you will have to start the game off as Dr Evil's until someone is out.

To start the game the coach will shout Woody & Jessie are you ready? they will reply with 'YEEEE HAAA', the loudest will get a free pass to the other side. When this player reaches the other saide they say 'go'. The game starts now!

Coaching Points:

- Use the inside of the foot only

- Strike the ball in the middle so it doesnt go in the air

- Have a big run up so you can pass the ball harder

- Choose someone to shoot the ball at

Adaptations/Progressions:

1) Make area smaller/bigger depending on how well the players are doing

2) Start with more Lotso's

3) Give Woody/ Jessie's 2 lives

Play for 10/15 Minutes

Passing (20 mins)

20 x 20 Grid?

7 sets of gates each 2 yrds wide.

Players in pairs.

Passing through the gates.

-Inside of the foot. The stripes, Swoosh, whatever is the part of the boot you use

-Balance

-Foot beside the ball

- head is looking in the direction of the pass.

once they get it assign one of each pair as the server.

Server passes through the gate. the other player receieves with one foot to the side of the gate, and passes around the gate, back to the Server. After a few passes coach calls switch, and the receivers find another partner, and continue. - If the can't get passing around the gates, just go back to both players passing through the gates.

-receiving the pass - do not stop it dead.

-small touch out of feet, then pass.

-marshmallow touch(control) then brick touch(pass)

-MUST BE DONE WITH BOTH FEET

Correct and demonstrate proper technique.

Once they are getting it, have them count how many passes in a row they can get through the gates with out touching the cones.

Passing through gates - Opposed (10/15 mins)

Passing through gates - Opposed (10/15 mins)

Same as progression 3 of previous drill but including defenders. Defenders move around, blocking gates, forcing players to move to an 'open' gate. This encourages players to get their heads up, communicate with their partner and accelerate to open space. Players only have to make 1 successful pass through a gate before finding a new gate.

Progression -

1 - Set targets e.g. first team to pass through 5 different gates.

2 - Take away gates/ add gates to make it harder/easier.

Key Coaching Points -

- Correct passing technique (inside foot, non kicking foot beside ball, kicking middle of ball with locked ankle)

- Two touches (control, pass)

- Correct weight of pass

- Communication with partner

Conditioned Game - Battleships (10/15 mins)

Conditioned Game - Battleships (10/15 mins)

4 Tall cones at each end of field for 'battleship'. Players split into 2 even teams & each given a number. Coach calls a number & the player from each team with that number runs around their teams 'battleship' and towards ball. Players challenge each other for the ball (1v1) and score by passing ball to knock over other teams 'battelship'. First team to sink other teams 'battleship' (knock all cones over) wins.

Progressions -

- Increase amount of numbers called to create 2v2/ 3v3, building up to full scrimmage.

Key Coaching Points -

- Controling ball, not just kicking it.

- Using inside of foot to pass towards battleship.

- Head up before taking shot.

- Communicating with team mate when 2v2/ 3v3
