Purpose/Objectives

Attacking Principles (U10 – U12)

1.      On the Ball

  • Can you run/dribble with the ball?
  • When running with the ball, can you see beyond the ball?
  • Can you shoot at goal?
  • Can you find creative ways to beat your defender?
  • Can you protect the ball away from a defender?
  • Where can you move to create a shot on goal?

2.      Movement

  • No standing zone!

Defending Principles (U10 – U12)

1.      Delay

  • Can you slow down the opposition?
  • Can you be hard to beat 1 on 1?
  • Can you stop your opponent shooting on goal?
  • Can you chase down the player with the ball?
  • Can you get yourself between the ball and the goal?

    Catch Me If You Can (15 mins)

    Set Up: 

    • Divide the players into two even groups with 1 ball. (3v3, 4v4, 5v5)
    • 1 Large Goal at one end with GK and 2 small portable goals at the opposite end.
    • 2 blue gates and 2 orange gates with yellow marker in the middle (as shown).
    • Balls placed beside coach.
    • Field size 30 (L) x 20 (W).

    Action: 

    • The ball is passed between first two players the  on the coaches call the player in possession attacks either end.
    • The coach will either call right or left and that is the way the player in possession heads towards.
    • If the defender wins the ball they can score as per a normal game at opposite end. 
    • Accelerate away or make a move and beat the defender 1v1.
    • Defenders work on recovery runs.
    Variation/Progressions
    • The time of sets or size of the area can be adjusted to suit the needs and abilities of the players.

    Coaching Points:

    • Correct running with the ball technique.
    • Quick movement and attack the goal.
    • Work on first touch.

    Session Timing:

    • Complete 4 sets of 3 minutes with a 1 minute rest in between sets.
