Attacking Principles (U6 – U9):

1. On the Ball 

  • Can you run with the ball?
  • Can you keep your head up when running with the ball?
  • Can you hide the ball?
  • Can you keep the ball?
  • Can you use both feet when running with the ball?

 2. Movement 

  • No Standing Zone!

Shadow Dribbling (15 mins)

Set Up: 

  • Divide the players into two even groups with 1 ball each.
  • One group leaders and one group shadows (different colour bib).
  • Field size 20 (L) x 20 (W).

Action: 

  • While dribbling around the area, the leaders are followed by the shadows.
  • Leaders do moves which shadows must follow.
  • Ensure leaders don't make 180 degree turns back on shadows.
  • Players to switch roles after 1.5 minutes.
Variation/Progressions
  • The time of sets or size of the area can be adjusted to suit the needs and abilities of the players.

Player Tips: 

  • As Above.

Coaching Points:

  • Correct running/dribbling with the ball technique.
  • Ensure you show players how to protect the ball and keep their head up.
  • Follow the leader.
  • Remind the players to be a copycat.
  • Heads Up.

Session Timing:

  • Complete 4 sets of 1.5 minutes with a 1 minute rest in between sets.
