Vertical Channels
To help players understand their positional play ideas better. The central channel is the most efficient way of attacking, as players are in good position to score or provide an assist.
However, to counter that, defending team often overcrowds the central channel, making it difficult to penetrate. Attacking team must go wide to create space, however wide areas have limited options (limited by sidelines and low probability of scoring).
Horizontal 3rds:
Risk vs Safety
When your team is trying to play through the horizontal 3rds of the field, keep in mind Risk vs Safety.
Defensive 3rd - SAFETY > risk
Middle 3rd - Risk & Safety are and will continue to fluctuate
Attacking 3rd - RISK > safety
