2v2 to Endlines (Defending) (15 mins)

Set Up:

  • Divide the players into two even groups with 1 ball.
  • End line at each end for attackers to dribble over.
  • One group good attacking (red) and one group (yellow) defending. Change after 2 groups of red have attacked the goal.
  • Field size 15 (L) x 10 (W).

Action:

  • The reds have possession and attack the opposite end line.
  • If the yellow defender wins the ball they score by dribbling over the end line.
  • Draw in defenders to either pass to your team mate or make a move and beat the defender 1v1.
Variation/Progressions
  • The time of sets or size of the area can be adjusted to suit the needs and abilities of the players.

Player Tips:

  • As Above.

Coaching Points:

  • Correct passing technique of the ball.
  • 1v1 moves to create a opportunity to dribble the ball over the end line.
  • Defenders to approach attackers quickly, then slow down when near the ball slowly, get a sideways stance and get down low. (Quick, Slow, Low)
  • Force attackers to shield the ball or force them sideways.
  • Work on positioning of second defender.
  • Quick passes and find a team mate.
  • Work as a team to find a solution.
  • Stop the attack.

Session Timing:

  • Complete 4 sets of 3 minutes with a 1 minute rest in between sets.
